Social Skills Groups

for Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Facilitated by Mitch Leppicello, LICSW

Social Skills Groups for middle school and high school aged youth are designed to help them with a wide range of social skills and social strategies to better manage themselves emotionally, personally, and socially in their home, school, and community environments.

Below are a variety of social skills that will be addressed in these groups for teens with Autism:

  • Conversation skills: introductions, initiating and maintaining conversation with peers
  • Understanding and coping with emotions such as anxiety, sadness, isolation, and frustration, embarrassment, and shame
  • Making everyday transitions and adjustments at school, at home, with friends
  • Personal space and social boundaries with peers and adults
  • Interpersonal problem-solving: unstructured activities, clubs or after school activities
  • Self-Regulation strategies for anxiety, preoccupations, and low frustration tolerance
  • Making sense of others’ behaviors and expressions as well as their own
  • Using Social Stories, role play, and other social building tools to augment social skills

Social skills groups are conducted each week for kids in middle school/junior high and even through high school!
